The calves

kalfjes creche scaled The camels

The love between mother and calf is our main focus. So the calves stay with us on the farm. Around 30 calves are born every year. Do you have a nice name for them?

Our camels

Each camel has its own customs and antics. Will you come and meet our camels in real life?

evita canva The camels
Evita is the most mysterious of the three and is difficult to gauge at times! Evita is an acquired camel and also a very different type from Nina (see below). Evita has an almost perfectly round hump and also stands a lot higher on her legs.

Evita came to us pregnant. So her first calf Sam with us has no family apart from his mother. But Evita is a top milker. We hope that Sam also has those genes and will pass them on as our youngest stallion.

nina The camels
Nina – the oldest camel on the farm – is still from the Canary Islands. Usually the friendliest animal of all, she takes her role as a mother very seriously. For the first 2 days after calving, you really can’t go near her and her young. So protective is she!
Moreover, she can occasionally act out of character. When we are converting the camels and you tell Nina to keep walking, she can fan her legs backwards and give you a look: ‘Hello, I’m already on my way!’
Today is 3 Kings, the day the 3 wise men arrived at baby Jesus’ house. A great time to reflect on our 3 oldest and wisest camels in the stable.
